While looking for the ending theme song for my short film ‘Little Place’, I came across this song- Litmus, which was like the calling out of nowhere.
It brings a sense of warmth and healing to the story which fits the emotions of the female protagonist, melting away the dreams of her home, her life and herself.
Thank you so much for the kind support, patience and encouragement from HOWLING and the whole team members. You allow me to create the journey along with this particular beautiful music at this particular time in 2022.
Background story of ‘little place’
Raised in Taipei by refugees from the Mainland, it has become the city in a state of psycho-physical exodus, with a population torn between those evacuating either eastward to China or west to the United States.
Most of the younger generation doesn't bother to look back to their history, but move forward. A city that has lost its orientation has set this woman adrift into a confusing and subdued liminal reverie, where everything she once called 'home' fades into little more than an indefinitely suspended state of animation, where she passively observes two selves playing out their own stories: one living, and one dying.
As the stories progress, she becomes more confused about which part of her is the dying, and which is the surviving. Her quest to reconcile herself and find her way out seems inextricably tied to the fate of the entire city.
當我為了短片"小地方"尋找片尾曲，聽到Howling-Litmus這首歌，有種溫柔和療癒的力量，在高處看著生活在都市的人們，女人在現實與記憶中尋找和這個地方的連結。這首歌連結孤獨與渴望，將影片帶到另一個視角。
感謝遠在柏林 Howling 團隊邀請MV 計畫，音樂人 RY X and Frank Wiedemann, 經紀人Felix Bierling 搞定複雜的合約和不同區域窗口，給予時間和鼓勵。
為了不透劇情，感謝有著高度實驗精神的剪接湧智，和我重新打散結構和調性，拍攝新的畫面，呈現不同於短片的樣貌，更接近原本想像中城市的日與夜。
感謝所有參與短片‘小地方’ 的工作團隊、演員和朋友，經歷了兩年從短片和MV，看到影片和自己的改變，在2022年這個時間點有著特別意義。
